Bamboo is used for everything – I didn’t know there was something called tortoise bamboo – it’s that twisty one in the middle.

This man is making Kyoto damascene – inlaying very fine wires into metal to make pictures.

The Japanese are really into plants and nature. These are hanging succulents and moss arrangements for sale in a department store, and a really ancient cactus that has been pruned, leaving the star shapes you can see here.

And this is the land of high technology. Panasonic have a showroom in this complex, and this is a 3D capture set up – hold your pose and then get yourself 3D printed like the figures in this display case.

The Lab looks interesting – haven’t been in yet but there’s a big digital tech and design exhibition on.

The hotel is very swanky – this is the flower arrangement and light fitting in reception. Could get used to this!
